VP of China’s top court meets law professor from Columbia University
He Rong, vice-president of China's Supreme People's Court, met with Benjamin L. Liebman, Robert L. Lieff Professor of Law and director of the Center for Chinese Legal Studies at Columbia University in New York city, in Beijing on January 12.
He Rong briefed the professor on China’s judicial reform and trials of foreign-related commercial and maritime cases.
Liebman lauded the progress made by Chinese courts in informatization and public access to judgment documents.
The two sides also discussed, among other things, cooperation in case studies, the training of judges, and judicial support for China’s Belt and Road initiative. In addition, they exchanged ideas on diversified dispute settlement mechanisms, the role of cases as legal precedents and judicial openness.
