A court awarded a woman in Xi'an 810,000 yuan ($125,790) recently as compensation after she gave birth to a baby boy with Down syndrome in 2009. The 48-year-old was pregnant at the end of 2008 and had two medical tests for fetal health in March and May 2009 in a private hospital. Because she had been told the fetus was normal, she brought a lawsuit against the hospital.
