China's Top Court President Meets with Foreign Legal Dignitaries

Zhou Qiang, chief justice and president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of the People's Republic of China, met with foreign attendees to the World Forum on Rule of Law in the Internet in Wuzhen, East China's Zhejiang province on Dec 4.

He welcomed the foreign guests and said that judicial organs are facing opportunities and challenges brought by the strongly and widely developing internet, rapidly growing economic globalization and the new round of the scientific and technical revolution.

Themed "building a community of shared future in cyberspace through the rule of law", the forum is intended as an exchange and cooperation platform for discussions and working together for win-win outcomes that promote the rule of law of the internet and push forward judicial relations between all countries.

Zhou outlined China's rule of law and performances of the Chinese courts and said that advancing the law-based governance of China is one of the country's fundamental principles. Courts at all levels will accelerate to build efficient and authorized judicial regulations and strive to let the people feel fairness and justice in each judicial case.

He added that the Chinese courts have deepened judicial structural reform, constructed smart courts and internet courts, explored new trial modes, promoted a modern judicial system and capacity and improved trial quality as well as judge teams' capacity, giving the people a stronger sense of fulfillment.

He also stated that China highly values the rule of law construction experience and the judicial achievements of other countries. He said that the top court will work together with the countries attending the conference to share experience on judicial reform, informatization construction and law-based governance of cyberspace, strengthen mutual learning and deepen judicial cooperation and exchange. The goal is to build a community of shared future in cyberspace and promote the prosperity and development of the rule of law around the world.

Foreign attendees to the conference expressed gratitude for China's invitation and shared information about their courts' performances.

They spoke highly of China's rule of law construction and judicial reform as well as informatization development of the Chinese courts, and particularly construction of the internet court.

They said that they are willing to increase exchanges with China's top court and take part in more practical judicial cooperation.
