Courts at various levels in China should improve judicial system to protect private enterprises, the Supreme People's Court's President and chief justice Zhou Qiang stressed at a seminar on Nov 5 intending to promote President Xi Jinping's instructions on supporting private economy.

A meeting between some representatives of private business owners and Xi, held on Nov 1, reinforced the message that China will continue to support the private economy.

Zhou urged court efforts to protect entrepreneurs' lawful rights and interests and create a fair, open and safe market environment for private enterprises.

Zhou affirmed that the SPC has properly adjudicated cases involving private enterprises since the 18th National Congress of the CPC in 2012, which has increased entrepreneurs’ sense of safety and their confidence in entrepreneurship.

Courts at various levels were encouraged at the seminar to strengthen judicial protection of entrepreneurs' personal and property safety.

According to Zhou, there is a need to improve judicial attention to protection of the private economy and courts should focus on private enterprises' issues like equity interest pledges and triangular debts.

He also suggested using successful adjudication of private enterprise protection as models and optimizing anti-monopoly adjudication to build an open and orderly market for the development of private economy.
