Jiang Bixin, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), met with a visiting court delegation led by Brazil’s National High Court justice Antonio Herman Benjamin on July 6 in Beijing.

Jiang reviewed the two countries’ past cooperation and coordination in the judicial field and outlined China’s achievements in judicial reform.

“Many Brazilian lawyers will attend China National Judges College for professional training, reflecting the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed by the top courts in both countries,” said Jiang.

The highest court in China is willing to cooperate with the Brazilian court to deepen cooperation in various fields, including legal reform, lawyer training and adjudication of environmental cases, Jiang added.

Antonio Benjamin echoed Jiang as he outlined Brazil’s legal reforms and expressed his desire for closer judicial cooperation between the two countries.

In accordance with the MOU signed by both sides in April last year, Brazil has sent more than 20 lawyers from courts of various levels to a two-week training course in Beijing. The trainees will also visit courts in the capital and neighboring Hebei province.
