On March 9, Zhang Jun, president of the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), visited staff responsible for handling comments from deputies to the National People’s Congress (NPC) and members of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee on the work report of the SPC. He expressed appreciation for their efforts and outlined requirements for carefully collecting, studying, adopting, and responding to their feedback.

The SPC organized a team of 424 staff members to sit in on delegation meetings and group discussions during the annual legislative and political advisory sessions, where they listened to and recorded opinions and suggestions firsthand. A dedicated task force was also set up to systematically sort, assess, and respond to each piece of feedback.

Zhang emphasized that sorting through, adopting, and responding to comments from NPC deputies and CPPCC National Committee members is both a statutory responsibility to support the lawful performance of their duties and a practical measure to promote high-quality judicial work through oversight. Over the past year, courts nationwide have actively accepted supervision from deputies to the people’s congresses and CPPCC members, addressed challenges posed by a high volume of cases and the complexity of dispute resolution, upheld fairness and justice, and worked to meet the evolving demands of high-quality economic and social development, achieving new progress across various areas, according to Zhang.

He called for greater awareness of the importance of this work, stressing the need to ensure that whole-process people’s democracy is effectively practiced and that judicial work is enhanced through their supervision. He also underscored the importance of a rigorous and responsible work style, highlighting thorough understanding and effective handling of each suggestion.

Zhang further highlighted the need to strictly observe working discipline, adhere to meeting protocols, and provide attentive support to deliberation sessions. He encouraged close coordination and mutual learning among team members to ensure that the work is carried out in a thorough and effective manner, delivering sound political and social outcomes from the deliberation.

Deng Xiuming, executive vice-president of the SPC, and Sun Zhenping, director of the Political Department of the SPC, were also present during the visit.
