At the symposium, which was attended by Yang Xiaochao, chairperson of the NPC Supervisory and Judicial Affairs Committee, Zhang gave a comprehensive report on the work of courts in the past year.

Zhang said that with strong supervision and support from the NPC and its Standing Committee, courts nationwide have faithfully fulfilled their duties, strictly and impartially administering justice and striving to resolve disputes effectively.

He highlighted progress in promoting dispute resolution mechanisms, strengthening maritime judicial work, and bolstering the capability of judicial personnel.

He noted that these achievements reflect the vitality of whole-process people’s democracy in the judicial sector and are closely tied to the proper,, lawful and effective supervision of the NPC.

Noting that accepting supervision is ultimately about self-awareness and daily commitment, Zhang said courts will always adhere to the people-centered development philosophy, more proactively accept supervision from the NPC, effectively implement various resolutions and decisions made by the NPC, and faithfully fulfill the duties conferred by the Constitution and law.

He pledged to take the opportunity of special report on maritime judicial work to the NPC Standing Committee to comprehensively review progress, identify challenges hindering high-quality development of the maritime judicial work and better serve the goal of building China into a maritime power.

Zhang also expressed the hope that the NPC Supervisory and Judicial Affairs Committee will continue to provide strong guidance and support for courts to advance the adjudication work in the new era.

Yang affirmed the SPC’s work in the past year, commending its active efforts to implement the Communist Party of China Central Committee’s decisions and arrangements, its commitment to justice, and its contribution to building a law-based and peaceful China. He noted that this visit reflects its high regard for the NPC’s work and its proactive acceptance of supervision by the NPC.

The NPC Supervisory and Judicial Affairs Committee will continue to combine support with supervision, further strengthen cooperation with the SPC, and support the continuous enhancement of adjudication work in the new era, he said.

Yang emphasized the importance of the NPC Standing Committee's planned reviewing of the report on the maritime judicial work of the people's courts this year, with a view to promoting the high-quality development of related work.
