SPC president talks with his Dominican Republic counterpart

Zhou Qiang, president of China's Supreme People's Court, held a video conference with Mariano Germán Mejía, head of the Supreme Court of the Dominican Republic on Aug 27.

In recent years, China and the Dominican Republic have been deepening mutual cooperation in various areas, and this meeting, held through a video connection which overcame the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, is important for building a solid foundation for the two nations' judicial communication and cooperation, Zhou said.

Zhou described China's rule of law construction and the work of its courts and said that courts in China have been improving the modernization of trial system and capability.

Since the pandemic broke out, courts at all levels in China have taken measures to guarantee judicial services and ensured timely and effective case trials through applying the achievements of smart court construction such as online trials and other methods.

He said he expects to enhance communication and exchanges with the Supreme Court of the Dominican Republic on the coordinated work of the pandemic prevention and control and economic and social development and to build a regular communication and cooperation mechanism so as to contribute the two countries' friendship.

Mariano described the judicial institutes and reform of his nation at the conference. He said he admires the achievements of China's rule of law and court work, and expects to further deepen communication and cooperation with the SPC to make new developments in the two nations' judicial work.
